Amy Nelson, Founder and President

Personal style comes in many different forms.  Some have it innately -- it is part of the very essence of who they are.  However with some, it is developed and evolves with time. Style Design seeks to help define our own sense of authentic and very personal style as part of our visual brand and how it is incorporated into our everyday life.

 Amy was born and raised in Hong Kong, New York City, and the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts and has taken the varied tapestries of these cultures to develop her own individual approach to Style Design.  This approach is defined by her philosophy – which is to educate, enhance and empower her clients to look their best and help define their sense of genuine style. 

 Amy’s own sense of style is a combination of experience and exposure to some of the world’s most respected fashion icons.  She has used her experiences to create a blended and down to earth approach to teaching her clients to develop their own unique and very personal sense of themselves and their visual brand. Amy uses this special skill to create wardrobes that go from civic meetings to the conference room.  She has also translated this approach to a series of seminars and corporate consultations, designed for internal and external customer marketing, brand development, employee enrichment, and enhancing one’s personal and corporate image.  Additionally, Amy has written numerous articles on fashion as she was  featured as a regular contributor for InTown Paper. Amy has also been highlighted in Atlanta Woman Magazine, The Atlantan, and Buckhaven Magazine.  Amy further touches her clients and constituents by participating in style chats and speaking engagements for retailers such as Tootsies, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Neiman Marcus. She has participated in panels such as The Brand Shop as well as radio interviews for Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Amy launched her career in 1987 in New York City working for the fashion legend Chanel, Inc. in their accessories division, managing and overseeing the businesses of clients such as the Chanel Boutiques, Bergdorf Goodman, I. Magnin, Neiman Marcus, and many other specialty stores across the country.  Moving on from Chanel, Amy became the National Account Executive for Paloma Picasso for Lopez-Cambil, where she managed the couture accessories business and helped launch Ms. Picasso’s second accessory line, By Paloma.  At both Chanel and Paloma Picasso, Amy conducted seminars and presentations on a variety of topics including sales techniques, collection education, and client development to retail executives and sales personnel.

  In 1992, Amy launched Saks Fifth Avenue’s exclusive personal shopping service in Atlanta.  As Director of the Fifth Avenue Club, she grew the business to be the 4th out of 55 stores in sales.  Traveling regularly to New York to assist with buying and selecting fine jewelry, ready to wear, and accessories for the club’s clientele, Amy grew the business to 250 personal shopping clients.

 Following the birth of her second child, Amy left Saks to launch Amy B. Nelson/Style Design.  Her clientele includes some of Atlanta’s most prominent citizens as well as clients and corporations all along the East Coast.  Her numerous business relationships over her 25 years in the fashion industry include custom jewelers, designers, and stores all over the country.  This enables Amy to focus on her mission, which is to ensure that everyone from corporations to senior executives to civic leaders have the tools to nurture and develop their own genuine style.

 Background:  Amy B. Nelson lives in Atlanta and has two children, Katie and Teddy.  She graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York with a BA in Business and Economics; She danced for five years with the Joffery Ballet Scholarship Program in New York City and professionally with the Berkshire Ballet.  Her charitable work includes The Museum of Design Atlanta, Atlanta Ballet, Buckhead Church, Angels on Earth and Cancer Wellness at Piedmont Hospital.
